Super MegaBug
By ritchcraft - Added On 7/26/2010
Super MegaBug is a recreation of MegaBug by Steve Bjork and sold in the early 80's by Radio Shack for the TRS-80 Color Computer. Super MegaBug offers a larger maze, more bugs, music, sound, wormholes and of course "We Gotcha!" for you MegaBug fans out there. The game was written in QB64 ( www.qb64.net ) and source code is available by emailing the author at the email address given during setup. You are free to pass on a copy of Super MegaBug to everyone you know!

I was really happy to see this remake of the old "Dung Beetles," which my son and I used to play so much, back in the 80's, but when I downloaded it and tried to run it, I got the message "Common Missing File /data/qb64.pal" Since I'm not a techie type, I don't know what this means or what to do about it, in order to play the game. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I tried uninstalling, then re-downloading and re-installing, but I got the same message again. Any ideas? Thanks.

First, thank you for the interest in the game. I too enjoyed playing this game a lot when I was younger. The only reason I can think of that would cause the error you mentioned is that you may be trying to execute it on a Windows 95/98 or 2000 computer, as I designed it to run on XP/Vista and 7. If this is not the case for you then send an email to terry.ritchie (at) gmail.com and I'll recompile the game for you with the latest compiler which does need the missing file mentioned any longer.

This issue has been resolved. The installer now includes the updated version. Seems the problem was stemming from QB64 and the way it handles files under Windows Vista and 7.

Thanks for telling me about that at RetouchPro. Spread the news to 3 other forums that I frequent. I really like what you did here by the way and thanks for this gem. :)

Your are most welcome. I had a blast playing the original MegaBug when I was a kid and I figured a remake was well overdue. I'm glad you like it. :)
