It's a fun game but the controls are a bit clunky.

I don't know how much I agree with the Patreon, you're making money off Derek's game, I get that you modded it, but he put 95% of the work in. But at least you're good with Game Maker so it's not a half-@$$ crap mod.

I think noone agrees, you can notice that game-specific patreon is completely empty, while my personal one has seen a minimal impact from releasing the mod.

Like, why would someone want to compensate my hundreds of hours spent to make a genuinely good mod? Like, really. Or why would anyone want to support me financially so I could make more nice things and keep them free for everyone?

We should just not have nice things, right?

I think you're overreacting, all that I meant was I don't agree with asking for money to support something that isn't yours. But don't try and make your self look fantastic, many people have put in thousands of hours on projects and asked for nothing. Take No More Room in Hell for example.

So you decide to compare NRH development team, http://www.nomoreroominhell.com/about/ with a single-person effort. That's okay, I guess.

I am not trying to make myself look fantastic, but rather stating that it is valid to allow people to support my efforts if they think that I've done a good job.

Nobody is *required* to contribute. But contributions could help me further improve this mod in near future, as currently I do not have resources to do that. Otherwise I wouldn't ask for anything. But we have what we have.

Odd that you decided to copy my comment word-for-word, but I'm glad that you agree.

hey there! me and my friend were trying to play the game via tunngle (a hamachi-like program) which works fine with every other game.

however, when we try to join in the other one's game, it just says "failed to connect" after a few seconds.

this happens both ways and we made sure that neither spelunky sd nor tunngle were blocked by anything.

i hope there's someone who can help, since we were really looking forward to playing this together

I haven't used Tunggle, but generally "failed to connect" error means that IP or port is unreachable. You can try hitting Ctrl+C on error screen to copy the full error text (if any) - that can tell more about cause of error and at least allow to search for it online. Most common problem is actually pasting the IP address with spaces or extra data before/after it.

wow thanks for the quick answer!

the error text just says "failed to connect", even after copying.
regarding the spaces you mentioned, we checked that and there's no mistake there either.

is it possible that you need to port forward, even when using tunngle or hamachi?

If you are using tunggle/hamachi, you should not need to port forward as long as you use the "local" address that program gives you. The whole point of these programs is to eliminate the need for port forwarding by simulating a local area connection. The issue must be somewhere else...
