GMC Jam #7 and After It's Over
By Bill on 8/2/2012
This past weekend was the seventh GMC Jam, which encourages the creation of a game in just 72 hours. This was my first time participating, and I approached it with some apprehension- the fastest I had ever finished any game before was three months! What I discovered though, was the small time limit really encouraged me to work quickly and decisively: previously when faced with a difficult decision I would go for a bike ride, take or walk, or even just go a day without working on the game to give myself time to consider. In the Jam, of course, this was not an option, and I think the result is my game, After It’s Over, being slightly rough around the edges, but also much more unique.
Having participated in one Jam, I can’t wait to do another, although unfortunately my life is going to get a lot busier very soon (college.) If you haven’t participated in one, I would certainly encourage it! People in the GMC Jam seem very eager and willing to play and comment on other peoples games, and assuming all Jams are that way (I assume they are) you’re likely to get a lot more feedback than normal.
Thanks for reading, and I hope you’ll take the time to check out After It’s Over and the some of the other games from the GMC Jam!
