Not bad gameplay, pretty tough actually. The game definitely needs a soundtrack. I like how you tell the story by the character moving to certain landmarks. Sound effect isn't bad, but definitely add a soundtrack to the game.

I like the shmup styled gameplay put into a top down game, as well as the overall aesthetic of the game (minus things like the default text boxes ofc), and the fact that you seemed to have some story is nice. However the actual shooting was overly simplistic and might have benefitted from more bullet patterns or enemy variation, and possibly having to fight against something other than a malevolent bush. I also experienced some frustration with the controls, though once locked on they were easy to use, it was just a bit too sticky at times. Also, whilst midway through the second stage, I accidentally leaned on the space key, restarting the game. I don't know if that's left over from testing, but it should probably be removed, or at least placed on a more obscure key.
Overall 3/5.

I didn't realise I'd left the space/reset in - sorry about that, I'll see if I can recompile and reupload in future.

In terms of combat...well, in fallout 3 the actual combat of it was mostly just shoot shoot shoot. I dunno, am I in a perceptual slip where I think people enjoy just the basics when really they are looking at the graphics of fallout 3 and don't care about gameplay (obviously I'm nowhere near it's graphics). Indeed for alot of fallout 3 combat, I'd say my game involves more player skill and concentration. I would say I'd done a little better than alot of fallout 3 combat in terms of player skill and concentration being important. But again maybe I've mistaken what people like in the combat in games like fallout 3 and they aren't there for the gameplay?

Thanks for your rating - for a WIP I think a rating of three is a pretty good score!

Oh, and I wrote a blog entry over this, because it is an issue that confuses me...

Well, the text nodes do heal you over time - and after you kill a generator, it heals you even faster for a little while.

That's unusual about the controls sticking...do you mean it'd only let you shoot up? You have to stop shooting for about a second for you to be able to set your shoot direction again. I might have to reduce that time even more (I had it at a set time for certain reasons, but they might not matter now).

That's interesting about the bullet destroying bullet. I'll think about that one.

And I just find it terribly unrewarding to make menus...games aren't about menus. Menu's are like the fuzzy dice on a car - cars aren't about fuzzy dice.

A decent game, I won't go on and on like last time :P

So first off, at the very least it needs a menu. The gameplay is a little glitchy. At points, it would only let me shoot and walk up, not left or right. It was also very challenging. I think you should make your bullets destroy the enemies bullets on contact, that would add a little bit of strategy. Didn't get to far but you should add stuff like spikes which make you restart the level, health packs that heal you, stuff like that. Graphics were decent, sounds were decent. 3/5

Cheers,
