When I was a kid, I used to fill sketchpads and spiral bound notebooks with crudely drawn maps, cities and extensive landscapes, cutting out little people and vehicles to move around across the pages and pretending it was my own video game. I think a lot of people did this as children, especially those of us who grew up captivated by games at a young age. Duum Mashine, an arena shooter by a developer known as Scattle, reminds me a lot of those days, from its skip ruled paper backdrop to the little kid style drawings, to its ridiculous premise, which, of course, involves a giant laser.
