Vatn Squid

Vatn Squid (Icelandic for water) is a short Bullet Hell Boss Rush Shmup made in a 48 hour period for the GameJolt Weekend Jam!

Vatn Squid is compatible with XBox360 controllers! I personally recommend it if you have one, its a blast!

Controls

Arows - Move
Z         - Fire
X         - Shield Dash (absorbs bullets for your Power Meter)
C         - Fire Missles (usable when the Power Meter is at 100%)
Esc      - Quit

Left Stick  - Move
A               - Fire
X               - Shield Dash
LT or RT    - Missles
Back          - Quit

F4              - Toggle Fullscreen

PLEASE NOTE:
By nature shmups are pretty difficult games. While I've made all of the effort to balance skilled shmuppers and newbies' play styles, this game is probably going to be VERY difficult for beginners, and fairly easy for seasoned veterans.

  Very nice. Big bullet-hell fan. Spent my entire day on this >_>
  Couldn't get under 2 mins (lowest I got was 2:06, or something like that). Found out how though, might try it some other day. 5/5, good work.

  I survived with no lives from the wierd beak fish - vatn squid. That thing is crazy! But I managed to almost beat it. (if vatn squid is the last one)

  A very original 2D shooter which focuses primarily on one powerful enemy per level rather than a multitude of many smaller, weaker enemies. The bulk of 2D shooters begin with an array of small weak enemies, which progressively climaxes you towards a boss at the end of each level. Vatn Squid takes you straight to the man himself (the boss in charge) -- where you must avoid his firepower, which is often perceived as multitude of "pellets" forming the pattern of an octopus's tentacle. At the same time, you also need to consider positioning yourself in the center of the screen in order to kill him. It is a case of dodge and shoot and the shield comes in handy for when it is literally impossibly to maneuver your way through the pellets. The game has nice fresh upbeat ambient music, but is unfortunately unaccompanied by any sound effects. 4/5

  I agree with prince that it jumps from easy to difficult, but after playing a second time, I managed to get past the first challenge. Everything else was perfect, and even with the minor inconvenience for bullet-hell noobs like me its still worth what people place it as

  Easy to load and quick to play. Has a great balance for newbies and professionals but the transition was not that smooth and it kinda jumps suddenly from easy to fairly challenging.
  Still great game.
