- Game Overview
Space Garden Punchonaut is a tetroidvania with not a whole lot of emphasis on the "vania" bit. It's a "match x" style puzzle game with platformer elements and cooperative multiplayer support (player 1 - keyboard (LEFT, RIGHT, A - jump, S - punch landed vegetables, D - attract falling vegetables), player n - additional gamepads).
The game was written in C++ with the XRhodes framework for the TIGSource Assemblee competition, part 2. The artwork is courtesy of members of the TIGSource community. (The compo version is v0.96a - please find it amongst the downloads; the default QuickPlay / Download is the latest release.)

Awesome game. I really enjoyed the concept.
The graphics are also nice, along with the music.
Still, I don't really got how the "attract falling vegetables" works. They get close to you, then they go away, then close to you again. It's kind of weird.
Another thing that bugs me (although it might be part of the concept) is the fact tat you die when you hit a falling object with your head. I think it would make more sense if they worked like walls and only killed you if they squached you against the floor.
Apart from that, congrats. You've got a pretty damn good project in your hands. ;)Reply -

Thank you for your kind comment, it's greatly appreciated!
The attracting works horizontally, and it works on the vegetable that's closest to the player. "Swinging" (when "attracting" makes vegs keep moving until they keep moving away from the player) is a side effect of how attracting was implemented, but it felt useful in so many situations that I left it the way it is - the veg being attracted might otherwise just end up landing on the player's head; I'll wager nobody wants that.
I've continued working on the game and am considering new ideas and changes to the way things are. I've heard other opinions where they wanted "death by vegetables" removed. I might consider doing that, however I feel that would be reducing the challenge and streching the game to too long. What I had in mind is making jumping more user-friendly: press more to jump higher. v0.99a will see to these.
