Weekly Indie Show - IndieNet!

  • By KniteBlargh. Cos' he's awesome like that.

(Totally awesome poster and mascot by the wonderful KniteBlargh!)

Do we need another Indie game-related show? Well, of course we do! :D

IndieNet has begun being pieced together and will currently only be available for viewing via my Youtube page (that'd be this link) as I haven't anywhere else to show it.

    - Heatx7 and CornontheCoD are both respectively creating the intro and outro themes of the show.

    - The show will have reviews/feedback and news of mostly freeware Indie games, some of which will be games featured here of course. This could give your game pages (and GameJolt) some additional views, OOH.

    - Unfortunately, my cam/mic quality are of a poor standard currently. I may be able to use my brother's and will get my own new one as soon as possible. Also, I tried getting a screen-capture program like Fraps to work on my computer but it ran extremely slowly, so unfortunately I'll just be using screen-caps, screenshots and any trailers/clips provided.

    - Any support of any kind by developers and anyone generally will be appreciated, even if it's just alerting me of your game and/or sending me material such as screenshots and trailers/clips. You can do so via a comment here or at toadsanime@hotmail.com

    - Would really appreciate any assistance in promoting this, too, seeing as that currently I can't see it get any views.

That's about it, really. So, yeah, your thoughts on that?

  • Sounds cool, I've loved watching Byetjacker (I've noticed you do too as you are in many episodes), but it only does 3 games a week, so if you could make a show that covered more and focused only on free indie games, I think it could be a success. I'd watch it. :)

  • Yeah, this is going to be great. I agree with Legendary, ByteJacker has a certain format they do there shows in (feedback, new question, [radar], Free Inde Rapid Fire). If you could focus a lot on inde games, it would be really nice. I'd watch it as well.

  • Ah, sounds like a great idea. I responded to your offer in my music thread with a Yes, or rather.. " Sure!". Check it for the details.  If there is any other way I could help just let me know and I'll see if I'm able to.

  • wow cant believe Ive never heard of bytejacker before that show kicks ayuss

I'd be willing to contribute something... though I'm not sure what exactly eheh... :D

  • Thanks all for your support and encouragement, I really appreciate it.

@Legendary - As you've pointed out, Bytejacker only does about 3 games a week. And, yes, I'll be 'covering more and focusing only on free indie games.' :D

@Zack - Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it! I'm really looking forward to making it and am pretty sure it'd all go well, the only issue I have is that, as I previously pointed out, my cam is of poor quality. I don't want that to lower the show's appeal.

@Heat - Ah, great, thank you so much Heat! I'll check and reply to it now.

@JHJ - Yeah, Bytejacker's pretty good. If you've only just started watching I'd even recommend watching all the old episodes, actually. And thanks for the will to contribute! Having not even started filming yet, I'm not sure what you could currently help with, but it's the thought that counts. If you think of any way you can contribute, from giving footage, telling me about your game maybe or even simply writing about this in a blog, all is much appreciated.

Thanks guys, and I forgot to mention that my Youtube page is www.youtube.com/toadsanime of which is currently the only place this will be featured at. CROS has made apparent that he may be interested in launching a 'GameJolt TV' feature though, so there's a possibility too.

  • Sounds neat. I like the idea behind ByteJacker but I don't watch it regularly because it's ridiculously short and doesn't cover enough stuff.

    So here are my suggestions:

    1. Cover a lot of games, and say a good deal about them (but not too much); I think 8-12 minute episodes would be better than 2-6 minute episodes, even if that meant they were done less frequently.

    2. Do interviews. Interviews are cool. Video conferencing and what have you. Or even just send off an email to the game creators and ask a couple of questions so you can flesh out the video. I think it's important to let your viewers hear from or about the creators of the games. In the few ByteJacker episodes I saw, some sort of obscure games were covered, and I would have liked to hear a bit about who was behind them.

  • (Updated the main post, but I think most people would of realised due to the totally awesome poster being there.)

@Elastic - Thanks for the feedback and interest! So yeah, as you've also suggested, the game will be about 8-12 minutes long per episode. It'll probably be about 10 minutes long as I need to be able to put it on Youtube and their regulations are that it needs to be 10 minutes long at maximum. But yeah, I'll be covering a lot of games; I may cover games that aren't new too as there's obviously loads that I feel are worth covering. But yeah, loads of coverage for games naturally and I'll try to see a good deal about the most of them as I do via my comments here.

I may be accepting to show people's trailer for their games and stuff too, i.e KlikCast (not sure if anyone watches that.)

As for interviews and stuff, I have interest in doing that already. Hopefully I'll be able to do so and I should be interviewing a number of people - mostly developers of course but also website owners possibly (such as CROS for instance). As the only interest in this show currently mostly remains to those who have read this thread, that may be hard to do at first. Hopefully after a few episodes people would of heard about it. :D

  • Im accully looking really forword to it. I have an good feeling about it! :D

  • Thanks Ness, I really appreciate the support. :D

  • Right, I should probably mention that it's thanks to LemGemapple that this show is called 'IndieNet' as she supplied a suggestion for the name along with its motto. I must have forgotten to credit her in this topic previously.

Anyway, for anyone that cares, both Heat and CornontheCoD seems to be nearing completion with the themes I believe. Once they are done, I'll begin filming so it won't be long at all now until the first episode has been uploaded. Please keep in mind when you do watch it though that it is only the first episode so it'll be nothing super-spectacular as of yet.

Also, LemGem has offered for me to use her video camera (which has a lead to the computer) in order to film outside for the show. I won't be able to do this for every week's show but if I am able to use it occasionally it'd be a big help rather than from just filming from my cam in the same scenario for every show. I'll remind her of her offer soon. :D

(My apologies for the double-posting but I felt the update was necessary. I suppose I could have edited this into my previous post, but in all honesty I wanted to bump the topic because I'm a douche like that.)

Arranging with gamejolt competition every two weeks or every week and make he prizes featuring on the Show next time and featuring on GameJolt as well

As they say above interviews are cool so try to make them :) and love that ur show will support it :)

Hope I see the first episode soon as I am waiting on fire :)

  • By the way I adored the postered so much as usual Knite rocks in making graphics :)

really its amazing and Hope again to see the show soon :)

  • Oh, I thought of another important thing your show needs to do... Actually I gather that you're already doing this, but nonetheless: You should cover games that aren't finished yet and those that haven't been released... It would kind of be interesting if people contacted you to announce entirely new games through your show that they previously had not mentioned the existence of.

...Anyway, I'm excited to see how this turns out.
