Some of you may have already heard about Game Jolt's plans regarding an Ad Revenue Sharing system for developers. We're extremely excited to finally announce that the closed beta is now starting!

To kick off the beta we're going to be running a game making contest! Three winners will be picked, all of which will be immediately accepted into the closed beta of the Ad Revenue Sharing system as well as have their games featured on the front page of the site. A first place winner will also receive a free single game from Steam (no packs)!

This is a themed contest. The theme is...

    Shocking! O_O

Interpret it how you will. You must make a game based on the theme above.

The contest will last about a week. Entries must be submitted by 12:00 AM (Midnight) EST, June 21st. That's midnight in between Saturday and Sunday. You can find the current EST here. It must be an original game created just for this contest and you (obviously) must be the creator of this game. You can only submit one game. There are no restrictions on creation tools, libraries, or file size. The game must be playable on a Windows based OS.

No screamers allowed! We don't want to be surprised by loud screechy voices screaming. It's not fun, and you won't win that way. (example of a screamer - be sure to get to the end)

Games should be simple and quick to play. We're not looking for epic; we're looking for innovative.

The winners will be picked by Game Jolt staff. We hope to pick the winners within 3 days of the contest cut off.

We're looking forward to all the games, guys! If you have any questions, be sure to post them. We're here to help. We hope everyone has a lot of fun with this.

    To Submit a Game:

You must add your game to the main site. After you have added your game, simply reply to this topic and paste the URL to your game. I'll be sure to update the topic to show your game is entered into the contest.

  • Aww damn... My game The Beyond fits this theme exactly. I should have held off on it's release, unless of course you can enter pre made games into the contest?

  • Aww I would join but the time is kinda steep. I have projects due :(

  • "It must be an original game created just for this contest and you (obviously) must be the creator of this game."

    Sorry. Crying

    Hope you still enter, though!

  • I'd like to enter! I hope I can find the time :)

  • Sweet. :D

I'm going to try coming up with an idea or two. =)

  • :O

    I must do this.

  • I'm about to finish a game where you butally kill cattle and bunnies with a shotgun for no reason. Would that count as shocking?

  • Can shocking be interpreted in any way? I mean, I'll probably stick to the electricity idea but if I made a game about a ... I had something here but deleted it because I'll just make this as a game too. It will definitely be shocking. :P

  • Too bad I only just found out about the contest. But this week was probably too extreme for me anyway.

EDIT: Oh, I get it - the dates are screwed. I thought the contest was already running for a week.

  • I hope I have time to enter :)

  • Are there any restrictions regarding allowed platforms, libraries etc?  Is any pre-written code or other resources allowed?  Any size restrictions?

  • I'll try to make something if I don't forget. :D

  • Hola,...what's about the contents? Is it allowed to use royality free contents that are available in the net?

Nice you started that contest. Actually we just started to organize a similar one for the jMonkeyEngine(jME-Week). Quite like yours but more inspired by the pyweek.
