New Game Jolt Contest!
Theme? Rogue!
Posted On 1/10/2010 By KniteBlargh
Well, the achievements closed beta has been running along rather smoothly so far thanks to all those that have volunteered to help us out, but while we of the Game Jolt team have been enjoying watching the progress of the achievements system, the fact still remains that it is a closed beta, something that is not currently open for everyone to enjoy. So then, I'd say it's about time we have another contest for all of our valued developers, wouldn't you?
The theme is Rogue! They're out there, they know where we live, and they've got a few tricks up their sleeves to help them gain that extra gold (they even rob poor defenseless dragons that have no confidence); now it's time for us to show them that we know a little more of their roguish ways than they think.
You've got two weeks to make a game that encompasses the very essence of rogue-ness (yes, I made up a word), so get those brainstorming caps on, make sure to check all the contest rules and information so that your entries will be eligible, and let's show everyone what being a rogue is all about!

Man, these contests are biased toward people with time!
Of course, that's the way any contest is... haha...
I think I should give up on the idea of entering contests for a while.
If you need help judging one in the future, though, let me know! I'd love to do that.

Theme sounds cool, but there is so many contests right now I'm not sure I will be able to participate but I'll try :D

"Your entry must be an original game created just for this contest."
It annoys me when stated that an entry must be 'exclusive' to a competition. Whats the problem with creating a game that happens to fall within the theme for 2 different competitions?
Its old school anal thinking imo...

You can put your game in another contest as well if they allow it. What we want to protect against is people adding games that they've been working on that just happen to fit the theme. Considering there are people serious about this contest, we need protection against "fly-by-nights".
However, for example, someone could easily take the game they created for this contest and send it off to the YYG compo, if YYG allows that.

I agree with CROS; one thing that's really frustrated me over the YoYo Compo 5 was that WIPs are allowed to be adapted, and that immediately puts anyone who wasn't lucky enough to be working on a game at the time at a disadvantage. It's hard to put 100% effort into a compo when you know that other people have a two month "lead" on you :P
